Obtaining tool steel from USA
I'm posting this here because it's where WW tool makers are most likely to see it but won't be surprised if the mods move it elsewhere.
I just want to relate my very reasonable experience in purchasing some 18 kg (15 ft!) of various dimensions (5/32, 3/16 and 1/4" thick) SAE 01 oil-hardening flat stock (for WW blades) from the USA. The 18 kg is shared between myself and 3 other WWF members and should keep us busy for a few years.
Following Schtoo's recommendation I ordered through a company called ENCO and they were most helpful in helping me set up an international account and kept me clearly informed all along the way. I stuffed up the online ordering processed and they happily fixed it via email communication. They also fully discussed all the shipping cost options with me before placing the order and shipping.
The stuff arrived very promptly via USPS for around AUS$5:50/kg although there was not much left of the cardboard container - well what do you expect with 18kg of tool steel rattling around inside.
Thanks Schtoo, as you said the ENCO service was excellent and although we probably won't have to order steel from them for another 5 years it's well worth knowing they are there.
Cheers

Told ya they were good.
I'm happy to hear all went well, and have fun with the steel.
I wish I had some more cash, just so I could spend it with them, or maybe LV or LN or...
