Results of Plane and Chisel Sharpener
This is a follow on from this thread.

It has taken me a while to finish this unit and I am now happy with the result. I rebuilt the tool holder four times before I was satisfied. All up it takes less than five minutes to turn a totally abused blade into a very usable one. The process is to mount the blade bevel facing the disc and shape the bevel using 80 grit on the larger disc. Slide the holder over to the smaller disk and progress through to 1200. Disks are velcro and easy to change. Final polishing is done on the rear of the unit using hard felt wheels and Veritas buffing compound. The back of the blade is polished on the disks and buffed.
There is very little heat build up in the blade because the 16mm steel in the holder acts as a heat sink.
The photo sequence shows the blade before sharpening. Photo two and three shows the blade after sharpening. Photo four shows the results after fitting to my No 7. See if you can work out what the plane is in the background.Cheers,
Rod

Thanks for the comments. The plane in the backgound is a No 5 which had broken castings. I cut and reshaped it and jagged a well balanced plane. It was a bonus as I was going to scrap it.
Cheers,
Rod
