Oh Dog! Here we go... rough Stanley castings versus Lie Nielsen I-can-see-my-face-in-this instruments. How about a perforated slide on the shooting board and hook it up to the compressor so the plane floats on a cushion of air.

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

I agonised over the coefficient of friction when I built the shooting board, that is why I have left the space under the ramp not filled in less surface area to create drag I am also thinking of sending the no 51/2 out to be Teflon coated.

Great looking work (and not at all off-topic if you can connect it to a shooting board in some way)!

I have been thinking I could build a shooting board with a liner bearing and attach it to a rod fixed to a cam wheel (like on a steam train) on a motor pulley I have a 3HP 3000RPM single phase motor that I could use, do you reckon that will work? should just about pull the 51/2 through the end grain.

Doesn't like shooting boards that slope up

seriously, with a gap under the ramp, what does the plane sole reference on when you use the board?
