    Default Review - "Torquata" T-Track & fittings

I bought a selection of these parts for some jigs I'm making from Timbecon in Perth. I thought I'd make a note for everyone. I bought them becuase they were on super sale prices.

Before I go into details, I want to note that I've made several orders from Timbecon, and have been nothing but satisfied.

The parts arrived (some T-Tracks with scales, clamps, stops and assorted bits). I'll address the individual bits separately, but there is one important note - these items are not quite compatible with T-Track from other manufacturers (Woodpeckers, Kreg, etc). Essentially, everything is a little oversized. The stops and clamps will not fit standard track without the T-nuts being replaced, and standard fittings from other manufacturers are quite loose in the track.

The clamps were nicely made, and apart from the size issue worked fine with the Torquata T-Track.

The flip stops are .. weird. the body has a flange to ride in the top of the T-Track that's the perfect size for standard T-Track, but too small for the Torquata track! The flange bolt it comes with, though, is the larger Torquata size. The actual stop is a weird size and doesn't match the Torquata track .. it sort of flops into the middle of nowhere, unlike my Veritas stops. If you change out the flange bolt to a normal sized one, the body slides nicely in other manufacturer's track.

In general, I'd have to remommend against these products. They're nicely made individually, but they won't play well with jig components from other manufacturers.

    Phil

To be fair it is noted on the web site that the bolts are made for the Torquata T-Track and would need to be slightly modified to fit "other" tracks.

    T-Track Bolts - TTB-25
T-Track is almost impossible to use without the correct hardware. We have provided a range of T-Track bolts and knobs in the 5/16” size. This size is perfectly suitable for the Torquata T-Track, however, for the Incra system, a slight sand of the bolt head is required to fit it into the slot. This would take minimal time on a linisher.

Growing old is much better than the alternative!

I finally realised what was 'weird' about the flip stops .. the 'flip' is on upside-down, which is why they won't sit flat with the Torquata track.

So did you flip 'em over?

I know this is an old thread, but if anyone is looking at buying T-track components from Timbecon, then you might want to consider the following:
    1. I just bought 6 pairs of the flip stops, and the nut doesn't fit in the Torquata T-track (more than 1mm too thick) - apparently this was a manufacturing mistake and Timbecon has agreed to replace them - waiting.
    2. The flip stops as supplied will not provide an accurate/repeatable stop/datum for laying out your workpiece. However, the gap between the flip and the body is consistently between 0.79mm and 0,81mm. I have shimmed mine with 0.4mm glazed card (from a tag off a Stanley square I recently bought), and they now work really smoothly and accurately.
    3. I bought some T-track Cam-Clamps and while these work as advertised, the 5/16 thread is a problem for ensuring you can clamp them down while the handles are parallel to the track. There is too much pitch on the 5/16 thread so half a turn can take the clamp from loose to too tight. I haven't tried these in a large panel yet to see if the clamp can be used effectively at other angles relative to the track, but I bought them to sit on a fence and hold down an arm, so they won't work for this purpose.
    4. I also bought a number of other T-track and Miter track parts and the rest are of good quality and work as expected - including the packets of T-track bolts.

    I hope that helps.
