    Default Rolling brass plate

I posted this in another area without success.
Is it possible to roll brass plate without creating cupping across its width.
    I have unsuccessfully rolled 3mm X 50MM X 200mm into a 75mm radius.
    Any help?direction and feedback appreciated

Cupping is a natural response of almost all materials; called "anti-clastic" bending in the literature, and more pronounced when bent in air. (Try it with a stout sheet of rubber to illustrate.) The only way I'm aware of to reduce it, is to use stock about 6x thickness wider, so that the cupped edges (~3T) can be cut off after rolling. Alternatively, the outside edges can be ground down to the nominal outside radius, but the interior surface will still be shy of the objective contact width. Beyond those remedies, try to include it in the design of the part.

    Cheers,
    Joe

    Thanks joe
I have just about completed a curved sole spokeshave with the brass being the sole.
I can see the cupping, though i havent used the spokeshave yet so cant tell how the cupping will affect its use

    Shippers,
A couple of ways to get it without a cup,
One way is to use a section of a tube.
I can get the cup out of it by rolling it through my set of Flat rolling mills, (left set on the stand) and pushing it down as it comes out to keep the curve. It must be fully annealed to get it to curve.
Another way would be to make a swage block in the end grain hardwood and belt a rod of steel or curved hardwood punch into it...again it must be fully annealed.

    Regards,
    Peter
