router carver/ planer
Hi folks, this is a picture of a copy carver I recently made. Havent used it properly yet. Slides left & right on linear bearing shaft and slides back & forth on aluminium rollers on 2" steam pipe. Twin handbrakes lock either forward or sideways motion. Old car jack mechanism adjusts vertical angle of router and old parts from tv monitor stand allows swivel. Old drill chuck holds various shaped pins or roller guides.Scratch marks on table show dexterity of movement. Have tried it out as a planer and it is very accurate to 1/2 mm. I copied the idea from a commercially available model. Total cost was $300 for the s/steel shaft and bearings and $60 for the pipes. The rest was scrap. Forgot to tell the wife about the router cost.
Also a picture of a router (Hitachi) & planer( Makita) mini table I picked up at the swap meet for $180. Nicely made by an old engineer with sliding angle guide, sliding fence, and even a small tool box built in. A bargain I thought.
cheers, Lionel.

carver copier
I am looking for information in building a light weight wood carving copier, capable of 3D work. Want to use Dremils or Rotozip and be able to move forward and back, up and down, side to side. Nearing retirement and want to do this as a hobby.
If anyone has built such a device, I sure could use drawings, pictures, plans, leads, and any solid advice in building one for personal work.
I have looked at carver copier, on net, but surely others interested in carving, etching, etc. have build tools to aid in such endeavors.

I have made something similar and I am starting to try it now.
Please advice me if the

worth the money.
Please tell me what routing bits have you used. I have made some tests with a 6 mm diameter round head bit but the surface it is rough.
Regards,
Daniel
