After an early attempt of trying to make a model with clay, that well, didn’t go to plan.

I brought some Balsa Wood from Bunnies land, and knocked this out this afternoon, after my Sunday Granny nap.
Also, bringing back boy hood memories of my bedroom being covered in bits of Balsa wood all over the place, i was very much in to model building as a youngster.

So ,I’m very happy with it’s proportions it looks good,it feels comfortable in my hand(Don’t [emoji57]).
But, I’m happy for constructive criticism if your nice about it.

But, unfortunately ,it does have the appearance of a Sleigh, but well, it is that kind of that season, even if I claim to be an atheist.

I haven’t made the front bun yet for the model, and probably won’t due to I can’t be bothered.

I also haven’t figured out the lever cap extra, but will work on that with the model ,before I start cutting up metal.

That’s a Stanley 60 1/2 in back ground of the last pic for scale.

    Cheers Matt.
With that shape I do hear the jingle bells. I hope you ordered enough magic dust to make it fly [emoji3]

But seriously, that already looks like it's going to be a stunning plane.

If the tail is being done in metal I am curious how you make it comfy. The cast iron plane tails are wide and rounded on the top to fit nicely in the palm.

I am getting my Xmas nuts and punch ready and watch ;-)

Unfortunately, Amazon have run out of the real magic dust, plus being an atheist there’s issues with believing.
I am slightly concerned that I don’t end up making a Xmas ornament, I don’t think I could ever recover from that.

The squirrel tail, the plan at this stage is to obtain a huge piece of brass, and use one of those violent little Bastard tools called a angle grinders to remove most of the waste, before a more gentlemanly approach with files.
But that’s just a thought at this stage.

    Cheers Matt.

A tiny amount of progress and a slight design change that has been approved by the Governor, plus a working drawing.

The soul as been roughly cut out,but i wasn’t happy with the side profile it looked a bit too bumpy lol.
So a bit of a re design was in order.

also have my Tenons worked out with even spacing, which is important, because when the plan is sitting on a flat surface, know one will give a Rats bottom.

    Cheers Matt.

Yes I thought the table cloth was an improvement. I think you should steam and laminate the tail.

If i did the squirrel tail,in wood y dose,I would be a very sad chap one day, when it breaks its tail from a fall of approximately 900 mm to a hard surface,in veritable falling tail first.

    Cheers Matt

Some progress today, quite a pace for me, but nothing like Mr Ian W who just seems to make a plane every hour or so.

Sides ruffle cut out,Ive deliberate left quite a bit of metal on the bottom of the sides, but more about that later.

    Cheers Matt.

    Matt

In the pix the sole looks fairly hefty, which I like as it is not a criticism. I hope it's not a compensation thing...

    Paul,
You are correct, the soul is Fat, it’s 6mm thick, for the simple reason that’s what was available under the bench(Left overs from the Body).
