    Default Some small stuff

Last year when I made these floats I had some small pieces of float from the large triangular float left over.

The little long triangular bits shown in here.

The little bits have been hanging around the shed for some time getting in the way so I decided to make some handles for them and use them as mini floats. By reversing the direction of the teeth you get one push and one pull cutting action mini-float.

The handles are tuart - it's surprisingly easy to turn considering how hard it is to cut!

I also show a jarrah hex key handle I made for a 6mm key I use quite a lot. I wanted to buy just one 6 mm ball ended handled key but everywhere I went to look to buy one, they only had them in sets or they were outrageously priced so I made a handle for the one I already have. The handle is turned and then 2 holes at a right angles are drilled to tightly hold the key. The wood between the sides of the two holes is then cut out in one piece. I start by using a japanese saw, the tip has teeth than allow you to cut into a corner using a rotary action - the last little bit is cut with a dremel. The hex key is epoxied into place including the little piece of wood that was cut out to insert the key. Works great.

Pardon my appalling ignorance, but what are they used for? The tool I call a float is used for finishing a concrete slab, these look like rasps.
