Sturdee’s movable assembly table.
If you’re like me you will always have a need for an extra low assembly table but don’t have the space to have it permanently set up. In addition I have to make it do alternate duties between my workshop and finishing shed.
Over the years I have also accumulated a number of sawhorses, some with fold up legs, which I often used as an assembly table by using a piece of chipboard. This wasn’t always convenient or hand so I made a permanent movable assembly table.
I fixed to the sawhorses 2 length of pine framing onto which I nailed a large piece of chipboard. On one end and against the pine framing I bolted 2 old pram wheels to make it easy to wheel around.
Photo 1 shows the table legs folded up on its wheels, photo 2 shows the legs of the sawhorses folded out and the final photo shows the table ready for use.
As you can see I have been using the table quite a lot and it is one of the most usefull tools I have, easy to fold up and wheel away and very easy to set up.
Peter.

GHASTLY!! I mean Peter comeon mate!! wheres the fine woodwork in that?? mmmm wheres the framing of Messmate or Maple mmm?? wheres the wonderous textured finish of the top?? I mean this is not up to your usual fine standard mate!! For shame hang your head in shame young fella
However as a utilitarian piece its bloody brilliant and has caused to remind me that I have these fold down legs from an old tressle table I knicked from the daughter when I helped move her last year... mmmm thinking thinking
At present besides the two 15ft x 28in benches and the 8ft x 28in bench Im using an old post office desk I knicked from somewhere or other many moons ago that all the ply and chipboard had rotted away on so I took it all of and found a nice wee steel frame under it all this now is my main workbench which Ive covered with a double layer of 1 ply... mind you I still havent gotten around to screwing the top down to the frame nor have I stuck wheels on it... but I have located the thing right in the doorway so I can have light over it when Im laminating or fitting stuff together. So now Im thinking Id better get some more and make a top for that folding tressle table and finish this workbench off eh?
But for innovative use of otherwise rubbish WELL DONE!!... Id add a two thumbs up thingy here but for some reason the forum has changed and now only lets me use 7 soooo Id add a sad one but Im all out of my limitBelieve me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!
