Simple Wood Chuck - hold pen mandrel
Simple Chuck/s you can made or adapt for many uses.
Very little Cost - make a number of blank ready for special occasion. This one is to hold a morse taper pen mandrel on a lathe that does not have a morse taper.
You will need block of wood (preferably hardwood) and a hexagon nut that will suit the thread on the lathe.
Bore a hole the depth of the nut but at a slightly smaller diameter so that the nut can be epoxied and hammered in to catch the sharp corners. When epoxy is set, screw the blank to the lathe and turn on. Bring up the tail stock to engage the blank and tighten. Turn the blank to shape. Remove from lathe and take to drill press to bore hole for smallest end of morse taper (15mm). Now widen the front of the hole gradually to allow the morse taper to fit. Trial and error - trim a bit then check.
Make up other blanks for future adaption - good luck.Last edited by Black Ned; 5th June 2007 at 12:41 PM. Reason: photo missing

Good work Linden. You've been very productive lately, what with the brazing jig etc. Keep it up!
