    Default Wet Grinder Toolrest

I mentioned in some previous posts that I'd adapted Derek's beltsandergrindersharpener toolrest and tool holder to my newly purchased wet grinder.

Heres the pics. It's only a proof-of concept at this stage. A nicer looking version will be made (much) later.

As you can see the toolrest is not home made, its actually the torquata deluxe one with the roller removed. Works a treat. I'm settign angles by eye at the moment but once I can work out the geometry I can draw up a table for of projections and conresponding bevel angles. (Tangential geometry )

I'd definietly rather a beltsander but this grinder was only $39 bucks. It's a bit slow, especially on HSS
    Cheers,

    Adam

Mitre 10 had a $39 wet grinder in their cattledog. It was just a single wheel, loked pretty crappy. They couldnt supply it so they offered this model down from $130ish to $39. Absolute bargain.
Some have reported that the wheel doenst run true but I've been able to get mine running OK.
    Cheers,

Well Done Adam, I too bought one and have made a much uglier version from scrap wood. Works real good. I love it and can repeatedly grind a chisel with only one facet, never could do that before. Yours is much more prettier than mine but.

    Hi Adam,
I have got one of those machines too, and will be building tool rest, and watching your progress.

I recently replaced the grey wheel with a felt wheel and got some honing compound too.

My chisels have never been better and the effort to keep them sharp is not laborious.

    cheers,

I'm in the process of making a 1" wide mdf wheel to replace my grey wheel, bought the honing compound yesterday.

Cut out a piece of MDF to a similar size as your grinding wheel. Work out a way to attach it in place of said wheel. Fire up the grinder, load up the MDF with green compound. Finish off your blades on the wheel.

I made one that spins in the horizontal plane, from an old washing machine motor. That way I have a wide surface to use. The variant in question, being only 1" wide would not cope with plane irons, unless you use the side. Chisels only I guess.
