Workbench
Hi Everyone
I'm new to the forums but I thought I'd start to contribute by posting some pics of my workbench which took me a while to design but a much shorter time to build.
It's based on a John White design (one of the contributors to Fine Woodworking) and incorporates an engineers vice too as I do a bit of metal work as well. The engineers vice hinges down out of the way when I'm working with large panels or frames. I have a wood working vice at the other corner and plenty of drawers and cupboards.
Pretty much all the clamping is accomplished with pipe clamps. On the other side to the vices I have a sliding beam on which I can put door, panels, etc to plane along the long edge. The pieces are wedged into a wooden wedge piece at the left end. The height is adjustable using to pipe clamp fittings that the beam sits on.
On top of the bench insert panels can be removed and pipe clamp fittings swiveled up to clamp short or long pieces on the bench top (same job as bench dogs).
On the same side as the beam are side clamps for securing pieces that are on the beam but need to be held tight rather than in the wedge.
On one end I have a clamp rail to store some of my clamps and at the other end I have a router mounted underneath so I can clamp a fence on the top and use it for a router table.
It sits on swivel castors so I can move it around the garage.
I hope it's of interest.
Cheers
Mark

VERY neat and tidy. I'm not surprised that it took longer to design than it took to make it - it is easy to see that a lot of thinking and planning has gone into this.
Great work.

Thanks guys.
Still needs a few little details finishing off.
The pivot and locking bars for the engineers vice need modding as the vice rattles around a bit in use.
The cabinets still need the edging finished as the Missus caught me using the iron before I could get the job done
Also I have so much stuff on and in it that it's a mission to move these days so I might have to put some motorised tracks under it

My metal work bench has a removable offset vice on it.
Ii also used to rattle so I added Reese hitch type corner locking swivel handle to it.
The handle also makes a useful point to attach the welding clamp onto.
