    Default Zebrano marking knife

Hi, Just thought I'd post a couple of pics of the marking knife I made today. The timber is Zebrano and the blade is made from an Old Wiltshire file. I'm not sure if this is good practice, but I used it a couple of times, and it takes and holds a great edge, and works well!!

The finish was many coats of thinned out poly (i le it soak in, then steel wooled over and over), but then when it was all dry I decided to use silvo to polish it. I really don't know why because I didn't need to That's why I have white dots in the endgrain now I'll just sand it and redo it though)

If you are going to give me one, then yes.
    nah only kidding
I only had a 50x50x60mm block of scrap to play with, and I was umming and aahing about it, and decided that I really don't need a ferrule. It's a strong timber, the tang goes about 45mm into the block, and it's tight. I've never put much pressure on a marking knife.

    Thumbs up

    Nice little tool!!

You are right, Zebrano is a strong timber but can be brittle and will split along the grain. A ferrule will prevent this and, I think, add to the aesthetic appeal of the tool.

Yeah, I'll admit that, it would make the tool look better... I might take the blade off the handle anyway though and start again, I'm really happy with the blade itself, and the handle has proven to feel a little small anyway, So I'll just use my other larger piece of scrap
Thanks for the kind words guys
