Zero clearance fence for mitre saw
Having built a mitre saw station, I needed a better fence. The tearout at the back of the workpiece was wicked. Fortunately, putting a new fence on my Makita drop saw was not difficult. The old fence was held on with M8 bolts, making fixing the new fence with the existing bolt holes simple.
The pix show the unit from the front, above, and from behind. The base plate is 17mm ply. The fence is a piece of 9mm MDF backed by a solid lump of hoop pine. All were refugees from the scrap bin, so the total cost was two 75 mm M8 bolts.
I now get beaut, clean cuts.

Bugger!
Was feeling really pleased with the new fence until I tried to connect it to a new dust extraction system.
Nothing I did worked. Too much dust was staying forward of the fence. Finally, I chose good dust extraction as a higher priority and built an enclosure behind and over the saw to capture the dust ... see pics.
