The Lumber Yard
I just watched a 45min American doco from the History channel made in 2005. Whilst it doesn't go into any great detail, it touches on milling, history, exotic species, veneers, composites, musical instruments, finishes in boats, recycling and more.
The more experienced here probably won't gain any knowledge but I found it very interesting.
Watch it here: The Lumber Yard
At the center of the American Dream is the home--and at the center of its creation or renovation is the lumberyard. MODERN MARVELS® takes stock of everything wood, from the humble 2-by-4 to engineered lumber and the new wave of renewable materials. See how plywood and pressed woods are made, trace the path of exotic hardwoods from forest to market, visit a special lumberyard that deals in recycled and antique woods, and go on underwater expeditions with divers who locate ancient logs buried in the Great Lakes and New Zealand. If its wood, you’ll find it in THE LUMBERYARD.
The science and tech ones are my favourites.

Some interesting stuff on that doco site. Do you know how I can download and save them to my disc? - all I can do at present is stream them.

I can't help you there. Perhaps someone who's a bit more computer savvy can help both of us out, or point us in the right direction.
If you've got a slow connection, you can hit pause and load it in a separate tab/window.

Thanks John, I'm trying to digest the info' in that link although it isn't making a lot of sense at the present - I'll keep at it.
