    Default Band saw blades - GMC

    I have a GMC band saw that I use in lieu of a scroll saw because it seems to get more consistent results and is easier to control the material being worked on.
    I have been sourcing blades from Bunnings, but they no longer stock them.
    The blades are 1085mm x 4mm x 15tpi.
    The closest one I have found is a Ryobi 1085mm x 3.5mm x 15tpi. No-one at the store would state whether these blade will operate in the GMC.
    Can anyone help. Is the Ryobi blade workable in the GMC, or is there an alternative?

    Short answer: yes

    Long answer:
    The bandsaw should take any make of blade provided the length is correct and the width falls within the machines blade guides ( check specs)
    I have a gmc hobby bandsaw too. It takes 1400mm blades between 3 and 14mm wide.
    Thinner blades are good for curves, wider gives straightercuts in general.
    More teeth per inch gives more accurate cutting with less tear out. More teeth is rougher but faster and generally cheaper.
    I order mine from a supplier as suggested above. They simply cut a long piece of blade to length and weld it together.
    If you are doing lots of work on the bandsaw give some consideration to spending a bit more on a bi-metal blade. These use a toughened, rigid metal for the teeth which maintains the cutting edge longer, and a more supple metal for the rear of the blade which reduces the risk of the band snapping especially when cutting curves.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi gretany,
    I'm not dead sure about your Blades, but you could try ;

    328 Kororoit Creek Road,

    Quite a bit closer than NSW. They Post their Blades all over Australia.
