Hand made tool website
Hello all,
I have been drooling over this website for a while! There are various categories, inc. this for woodworking. http://www.homemadetools.net/category/woodworking
Enjoy!Andy Mac

If you Search the site my name, you will find 6 or so pages of the tools I built. I never posted these to this site. These have been copied from the forums without permission, and made into a book for sale.

Hi Derek,
Our ebook is free. If you're making good forum posts, you probably see them on Google or other search engines, Facebook or Twitter or other social media, or on Pinterest pages like this one: https://www.pinterest.com/source/woodworkforums.com/ . I think we're the only ones that credit builders by name through. We have 20 homemade tools from WoodworkForums.com indexed so far, and 3 homemade tools built by you.
If you're on high alert for spammers copying your work, that's perfectly understandable. If for any reason you don't want us to link to your stuff, let me know and I'll delete it.

Thanks HMT. I've been researching belt grinders lately and it's good to have all that info in one place.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

I missed that it was free. That's good of you. My knee-jerk reaction was related to a few DVDs available that contain plans for builds, and the sellers have lifted these from various websites. I do not have a problem with you posting pictures of my tools, as long as you are not using these to create income (including advertising renenue). However, it would be better to still request permission. I know that I was not approached in this way.

That's reasonable. I would say that many times when you see your content elsewhere on the web, it's a legitimate red flag.
We struggled over the issue of contacting people in advance. The technical legal solution is that, because we use thumbnailed images that are linked directly to each post, we count more as a "reference" than as a direct "copy" (Google Images follows this same path). For anything more than a sentence or two of detail, and a reduced-size image, people must click through to your original post, thus sending you visitors.
Legalese aside, we thought about contacting people directly beforehand. This is somewhat easy on blogs, because there's usually an email contact address. But what do on forums? We entertained the concept of signing up on a forum, and sending a private message to each member. Ultimately we considered that to be a somewhat spammy tactic, that would anger forum administrators and users. So now we're reliant on reputation, and showing up face-to-face in threads like this one.
I'm not exactly posting this while sitting on my private yacht right now, but, to be fully transparent, our site is supported by advertising revenue. The ads disappear if you're logged in, but there aren't really many other ways to support an online community. If that's still not acceptable to you, let me know.

I can understand the time required to contact all included, however that is still the right thing to do. The fact that we are having this conversation says to me that your intentions are honourable. Perhaps others might comment as well.
