    Default Mechanisms and mechanical devices

    Hi there,
I just found this on Google books, which seems to be the complete version of a book I know from uni. Bit of a favourite breakfast read of mine, to get the mind turning! Looks like access would be limited without buying it, so search wisely!
Its Chironis' and Sclater's sourcebook of mechanisms & mechanical devices, broken into sections like reciprocating, speed control, springs etc, a sort of pictorial directory. Ideal if you are trying to make automata or toy mechanisms, kinetic art and such.

    Cheers

Thanks for the heads up, Andy! This is the sort of book that keeps me awake at night.

Just out of curiosity, I ran a google search and noticed quite a bit of price variation; from US$60 up to US$90! It obviously pays to shop around.

    Hi Skew,
I'm with you there, I just love poring over things like this, trying to nut out the how and what! I used one example from this book to make the gizmo pictured, based it on a typewriter key mechanism- lots of stroke amplification. The section on Genevas is really good too.

    Hey wheelin',
I just went to download it and didn't get very far, no live link on the cover as the instructions suggested? Did you manage it?

    Cheers,

I'm pretty sure I have a hard copy around here someplace. Highly recommended. If nothing else, it can provide keywords for searching in Google or patent office databases for later improvements, or applications in other areas.

Noel what ever you do Don't go to freebookspot and not the DiY or Mechanichal Engineering or computer sections. it could break your bank account having to buy a storage drive.

I've tried twice now to download it, so its sitting on my desktop. Even used 2 .zip file managers, and despite trying the password that site lists I can't open the F*&^%$ thing.
Might stick with the library book

Have you tried WinRAR? That's what I used and it works fine. http://www.rarlab.com/

Yep, just tried that one too. My BIL the computer nerd was just here helping me with it and installed that. Turns out the file is corrupted

Borrow a copy from the library if necessary. I found my hard copy (a minor miracle in itself) while looking for something else. I'm pretty sure you can photocopy the Table of Contents, under the fair-use doctrine of Copyright, to get a list of keywords for later Google or patent search. YMMV, of course.
