You may have noticed that all of the major consultancy firms call themselves "practices" - that's because they don't "Do", they just "Advise" (  ) - the "all care, no responsibility" model

Actually if the truth be known, they get paid so little these days, that it can't be called "work" or it would contravene the Trade Practices Act.

For the record, I gave up "practicing" almost 20 years ago for that reason, now I "manage" among other things, consultants, and one of my roles is to ensure they take responsiblity! It's a case of mind over matter really. When it comes to getting things right, I don't mind what it takes, and they don't matter.

After running a large "practice" for several years, I discovered that the "managers" who were my clients representatives earned more than twice what I did, and knew only a third, and had no responsibility that I could see. I jumped the fence and to my dismay discovered that they got away with it because most of the architects I was dealing with knew even less!

Sadly, times haven't changed.... but one could say that in almost any trade or profession these days.

    Cheers,

    P

Yeah, I really wonder how the world really functions. I deal with middle management of quite a number of organisations. 1 in 10 know what they are doing.

and that 1 out of the 10 is probably at the bottom of the dung heap coz he spends time managing instead of playing politics to hide his incompetence
