However... if the post is really offensive maybe it is warranted... Hard to make judgement calls on this kind of thing..
I was discussing collusion and the rep system with Jools only the other night. we agreed that it was possible intheory that some of the high-ups would send each other greenies forno other reason than to maintain their superior position, but we concluded that it just wasnt worth it and there was no evidence to support it, then i come home today and i find out that not only is there a purple circle but i hold a high office in that organisation !!!

As for holding off when someone else who packs a punch has already fired off a missile, ive done that on many an occasion. in fact on a similar thread a few months ago i asked if it was possible to set the system so we can send off a fraction of a reddie, eg a box comes up and says "your reddies are worth 351 points, how hard do you want to hit?" and you can enter any number from 1 to 351, so you can control the damage you do commensurate with how much you disagree with the "offending" post. but hey its a woodworking forum, not a popularity contest. and it is really starting to bug me that the most discussed topic on the forum over the last month seems to be the reputation system, which at the end of the day has no real meaning.

The idea of weighted reds isn't a bad idea, but you are right, at the end of the day, it is fairly meaningless (until I get on top... then it is the most important thing in the world)!

I also think that this is a welcoming forum, nobody jumps on newbies if they ask what may seem a silly question but try to help them with their problems.

Of course if they are spammers, trolls, idiots, wankers or people that make accusations without foundation or play the man rather than an issue newbie status will not help you instead the forum will react accordingly.

I don't know who is amongst the purple circle, maybe you have to be an orange room member  to qualify, but I believe my red wallop does pack a punch and if some post really annoys me I send of not one but two reddies in response.

For I believe that if it's worth doing it's worth doing twice. Double trouble, double wallop.

    Peter.

Well, that counts the purple circle out then

I voted as a newbie having only been here since November last year. After a minor hiccup at the start I think I've settled in. I really enjoy the forum. Its very welcoming and I try to help newbies and others when I can in a constructive and/or informative way. I've learnt a lot too. I reckon I was set up with planes though. I think one of the buggers is rooster because they seem to be populating every damn corner of the new shed.
Anyway I reckon its a top place to hang out in in spite of the very few dills that live here (they know who they are).
    Cheers

I reckon 'Yes, if they behave.' & that isn't an option.

I've been 'lurking' for a while now and it seems that most of the time people are welcomed here. Seems that if someone new puts a foot out of line, boy don't they know about it. Anyway, I think its great here and intend to stick around absorbing all of this knowledge (and a few of the jokes! )

I don't care really. Sorry. Hows that for honesty.

But, I do instinctly backup at prick like comments and sarcastic comments directed at those who are just trying to understand something, no matter how stupid it may seem to others. That starts an arguement. And newbies are often drawn to sites like these in the first place, cause they want to learn something. Which is great.

The sort of posts that come out of the blue, quoting just a couple of words, often taking something completely out of context, including a 'rolling the eyes' picture thingy and maybe a single word or two....and then vanish. No input to the discussion other than that. Lovely.

And I'm not particularily fond of a couple of members  , dispite the fact that I have no idea really who or what they are .......but it ok isn't it, for them to roll their eyes at me and speak as though they know me very well.....Clever psychic buggers ! How do they do it.....

But then, all relationships start that way eh. We'll be best mates before the year is out...I know maybe I should send them some chocolates (I should roll my eyes now right ? .. thats whats normally done about now isn't it )

Termite cast the line and you took it hook line and sinker. Get real your avatar has become part of the fabric of the forum , its bigger than your pride or anything else, in fact either one is bigger so get it back ........ please.

    G'day,

It's a top joint in this cyber world forum thing, had lots of help here and in the flesh from some of the mob in here.

Only thing is spending time here means less time in the shed doing what I like best - heck, shed time even eats into my day job wbecause it's to easy to think I'll do what I've got to do today tomorrow, like this week gone - man I'll be busy as next week to make up for it.

So there's a purple circle hey? Who'll be the first to change his/her avitar to a purple circle I wonder? What are the perks? Can I join? Can I, I can I?
I make things, I just take a long time.
