    Default Veritas® Mk.II Honing Guide

Jeremy is probably right, but just out of curiosity, how many people own a Veritas® Mk.II Honing Guide?

Maybe the questions should be "Who has one and uses it"..

I have freehand sharpened for about 8 years every second day. Mostly just with diamond laps.

I love having a session with the MKII now. Quicker for me in some ways as you can set up a repeatable procedure and sharpen a bunch of chisels and plane blades to a smooth razor edge that lasts longer than my previous efforts.

I like it because it means I have to think less.

Although I have one, I find I am doing most sharpening by hand nowadays. Whether I am getting better at it, lowering my standards or just too lazy to fish it out the cupboard I can't say.

It certainly does a good job when I do use it though.

Still using MkI. But if I was looking for a new one I probably would go for the MkII.

In addition to the Veritas MkII I also have an Eclipse 36 and a Stanley honing guide. I never use the Stanley anymore, I use the Eclipse sometimes and I use the Veritas MkII the most. I regard honing guides as being a bit like training wheels on a bike. One day I hope to be able to hone my blades effectively without one. For now though, a honing guide helps me to eliminate a particular source of variation in my ability to sharpen and so I will continue to use one until I get a better handle on all of the other sources of variation.

I have a Mark 1 and only use it occasionally, I usually sharpern freehand.

If I was going to buy another honing guide it would be the Mark II.

    G'day,

Yep, I've got one. WoodBorer showed me the benefits of a Mk1 in his shed one day () and not long after I ordered a MkII. Like Matrix I don't have to think too much now, and it leaves my brain cells for much harder things.

(any brain cells left are probably getting killed off by those vitamins that I'm taking )

    Never heard of it.

Can it do a cross stitch?

    Regards from Perth
