    ok i looked so i am ruling my self out. 3 is not the court marshalls but the number of charges?

    The number of courts marshal. ( It is the courts that are plural, not the marshals )

    It was Bligh. I thought when there were only two answers - Cook and Bligh and I replied "Not Cook"
    Then some bright spark might have twigged.

    Bligh faced 3 courts martial, and was exonorated at all 3.

    Bob, I know that the history of the war of independence and it's aftermath was pretty damned complex.

    The French were involved for several reasons ( the main being that they were French ). The Spanish also
    stuck their beak in.

    Now with both these countries having colonies in the West Indies and central/South America the US was
    probably permitted to operate from one of those.
