Barry is correct.
It is a swaging tool. Used for flaring the ends of copper pipe when connecting with compression fittings."I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the kind of person I'm preaching to."

Not quite right it has a specific use and only that use. What is that use?
To make it a bit clearer the black bit sticking out is actually threaded.

Hi
What is this tool used for.
Used to insert threaded inserts into thin tube or sheet metal, to enable screws/bolts to be used. The insert is compressed operates in a similar manner to a pop rivet. This tool compresses the rivnut.
Hey Barry do you want to sell it??Kind Regards
Peter

MrFixIt
You are correct.
No I dont want to sell it, but interesting enough I was in Bunnings in Tamworth a couple of weeks ago and the had them for sale in various sizes I believe along with the RivNuts of various sizes.
I used it years ago to install a series of Aluminium fins to the outside of windows on a commercial building to provide shade protection to the glass with a 3/8 bolt through the window frames and into the fins which were made of two pieces of hollow section 150mm wide x 40mm x 2400mm long bolted together side by side and the RivNuts were put into the fins to take the bolts.

I actually bought the same tool (as in the pic). I took it back when I found it inconvenient to use (or so I THOUGHT!). I wanted the "plier" type for which I swapped the tool I bought.
What I would have REALLY preferred was the compressed air driven rivgun, but could not justify the $1500-$2000 price for installing around (at that time) 8 rivnuts.
I only found out when I came to use it, that you need the hands and muscle of the INCREDIBLE HULK to "drive" the plier type.
Anyway, a little more practice and I found that I could adjust the plier type to compress a little at a time and that seems to work ok.Kind Regards
