    Ralph,
Don't let them try to cofuse you with fancy dates and times. This example tells all you need to know:

In NSW it is 6:04 pm on 3/5/2004. In Queensland, it is 6:04 pm on 3/5/1954.

In Victoria, Mickeys big hand is on 12 & his little hand is on 6.

and anyway Ralph, 2000 people have read your respective threads as at this time...... (whatever time that is yesterday at your place), and they wouldn't have anywhere to go if you didn't keep those questions coming!

When you don't get ANY response...that's when you need to worry....unlike your countrymen, one of our quaintest habits is to mercilessly take the pi$$ out of our mates. On the other hand, poor service or customer complaints are handled somewhat more discreetly than perhaps you have seen. We don't say ANYTHING to the person involved...we just go home post it on a bulleting board somewhere, and don't ever go back!

Don't ever expect any of us to sign off "respectfully" though....we don't know the meaning of the word.(Perhaps that could be the next quiz word?)

    Cheers,

    P

    AlexS,

The time zone and dates appear ok but why did it take you an hour to hit the "submit reply" button?????

    Default WOODWORKING QUIZ 3/5/04

    Hey Guys,
If a guy were like a woman you could say that yesterday I had a bad PMS day. I shall however not take offense to your shenanigans in the future. I know that it is now 21:55 or 9:55 PM in Sydney 5/3/04. While it is 7:27 AM. here fast time or daylight savings time 5/3/04

So here is another quiz for those of you who are still up.

In post and beam construction, how are the timbers let into each other and what type of bracing are used?

    Respectfully,

Yahoo I know that one and I'm in first!!!!

Two skew nails and a bit of baling wire on the diagonal!!

    (Ooops there we go again!)

(The bracing part of the answer will be a bit interesting, because in NQ (North Queensland), Mick needs just a bit more than the blokes in Victoria.) I wait with baited breath.

    Cheers,

    P

Mortice and tenon, with hardwood wedges or pegs, for the joints. I presume that the braces are set into rebates and pegged.

See Ralph, I can be sensible. Mind you, I may not be right.

BTW, with a name like Ralph, getting PMS is a worry. Have you checked you equipment lately?

    Hello Robert,
Yes, I just checked and everything is where it is supposed to be.

But I was born in April and didn't get my name till June as my mother had the windows up to get some air and heard a dog down the street go ralf, ralf. She exclaimed that's what we'll call him, and that is how I got the name of Ralph.
That didn't bother me though but, my dad didn't quit calling me what's his face till I was seventeen.

Good thing the didn't name me Sue.

Default WOODWORKING QUIZ 2 ANSWER ON 5/3/04

    Morning Mates,
Now that Robert has me standing right, after sending me the map that showed I was upside down until I printed it out and turned it up sow I could read it but, the only thing was all the words are now upside down. a guy could get dizzy trying to read this darned thing.

I know now that here it is 16:44 on 5/3/04 while down there it is 06:43 on 5/4/04 because you are west of the international date line.

Now to answer the 2nd quiz for yesterday. Robert WA got the correct answer as he stated that the mortise and tenon were used and either wedged or pegged for the joints.

    Thank you for your support.

    Respectfully,
    Ralph Jones Woodworking
