My girlfriend is pregnant and i would like to make a rocking chair for her as a gift and i am not sure about the timber to use for the arches and the radius to use. Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi
Not sure what parts you mean , Arches etc , I made a Sam maloof style rock a few years ago and the Head rest was a 36˚ accumlative so I used 6 pieces timber with 6˚ at approx 5" wide each piece .(however My friend who I helped make a Chair with just laminated up the same curve for the headrest)
if you mean the Arches for the actual rockers them selves , these were a Template from Plans I had . (which a Form was made up and then laminated pieces together to give the radius )
let me know what other bits you need to know and I will try and Help

If you search for rocking chair you'll find heaps of info on this forum, one of the members (Rocker) even used to sell plans for his, not sure if he still does.
This search will get you started
Ben.
Oh and congrats.

rocking chair
Hi guys thanks for the info it is all appreciated. At this point i just need some info about the rockers. My girl is 7 month pregnant and i do not have enough time to build the entire chair, i want to convert a already made chair into a rocking chair. I thought that would be the best thing this late in the game. Thanks
