    Default of 1400

    hello
i was using the OF 1400 festool router today and notice that the
( coping dust extractor ring ) attachment that fits on the bottom of the router does not sit completly flush with the base plate.and it is really anoying when u cant use the coping dust extractor ring how big the hole is. i have the base attatchment to make it smaller but that can only take smaller bits and then the dust extractor coping ring cant be used.

the result is when u start and finish on a top it can dip down because there is no support in the middle section of the router. its prob only .5mm maybe .7 but thats enough if i have to flush off a bit of corian that puppy has to be perfect or put a profile on an edge it dips down.

i was wondering if someone can check if that is the case with there router and if anyone has had similar issues or challenges or if mine is a dud.

    cheers bryan

Bryan, you're not alone, my OF1400 is like that too. I was able to shim the insert with paper to make it flush.

Bryan, whether you smoke or not it is handy to keep a small pack of cigeratte papers handy in the shed in the event that you need to rectify a situation such as Brice has mentioned.
It can easily overcome the problems sometimes brought about by a manufacturing fault and get you back on track.

yeah nice so what do u do when you cant use the dust extractor coping rig and the cutter does not fit in the base plate that clips on the the 1400 base?

its disapointing for a maching thats suposed to be the ducks guts.

dont get me wrong im a festool fanatic and have over 25 festool systainers with festool and other branded tools tools decked out in them. but this is realling pissing me off. i encounter different situation at work where i have this problem with this router.....

Bryan, I wonder how Festool would respond to your issue particularly when you've been a strong supporter of their products.

Have you had a response from them?

    Cheers

    only just discovered the problem..

was just looking on the site and saw this but still a bit thin around the edges

i might have to make my own base or get another one of the clip on ones. and take the mount coping ring off and mount it on there i have had 2 different situation in the last couple of weeks that have been the result on this poorly manufactured base of the of 1400. i find myself reaching for the makita router i want to use the festool and did use it today but not good enough. And they make these statments on there web sites .

if there is a reason then im all ears

Everything is ready in double time. The copying ring is fitted with
    a simple click,
without effort and without tools. It can be
    removed again just as quickly.
This not only saves you time, but you also avoid mistakes: the
copying ring fits in only one position and, thanks to the centering
    system,
    is 100 % accurate.

The system is supplemented by useful accessories that fit the
copying ring holder: the base runner with a small hole diameter
is ideal for working with small routers. It ensures that the
OF 1400 has a flat and stable position on the edge.

Routing with more precision is not possible!
