    Default 2200 OF and CMS

    Hello all,

I am very to close to going for a festool 2200 OF router, router module and the table. I work with my father and use his router at the moment. My old man has had his hitachi 1300 watt router for over 30 years and only replaced a bearing twice. It still works okay but changing bits is a 30 minute job.

I could just buy a new table but I want something that can change bits in the table and be adjusted from their top of the table. I know $3k is a lot for a router and table but if it lasts a long time it will pay for itself many times. Am I an idiot for assuming the festool 2200 and table will last 30 years? On average the router will be turned on 2 hrs max every week. Some weeks it will be used a fair bit and others not at all.

I know that a Makita, dewalt or triton would be fine but I don't ever want to have to buy a router or table again.

    Thanks,

Gidday MBP, sure it's a fair bit of mulah, but the beauty of Festool is that you can add on to the CMS.
TS55, carvex, guide rails for the OF2200 the list goes on.
I just recently purchased the OF1400 and LR32.
    Makes things so much easier.
Sure you can build a router table and throw in a big Triton underneath for a ¼ of the price, but it isn't that portable, as you say you go to your Father's place a bit, you can now take the CMS unit with you.
...and if you don't like the setup take it back for a full refund, no questions asked within 30 days.

    I should work for festool

    Hi Glenn,

    Thanks for the reply

That is exactly what I am thinking with the adding on.

I should have been more clear. My father is a full time guitar maker, so thats what the CMS/router will be used for. Although he has a couple of big workshops I would still prefer something that is portable so I can carry the router out into the paddock instead of getting dust all through the workshop. Portability in fitting in a worktruck or whatever is not an issue, but moving around at the workshop is. As is taking up as little foot print when not in use and ofcourse the time it takes to get it set up.

The changing of bits is one of the biggest attractions. Most the bits are specialty bits so chipping one will muking around under the table would be an expensive mishap. The time saving will also be great. From the videos I would be able to set up the table, router and get most routing done in the time it takes to set up the table as it is now.

The router will also be used plunging so the set up looks perfect for that. Will/should the CMS last as long as the router?

Sure would, unless you are like some tradies I have met, and throw their gear into the back of the ute. (literally).

If you obtain a festool dust extractor you can reduce your dust problem. The dust extractor will take up not much more room on the floor than the systainer of the router.
Yes the Festool gear does cost, but it is good gear that works well with other Festool gear. The systainers are stackable (and lock together) and that saves floor space. The systainers make moving the gear in a vehicle easy, even though they do take up a fair bit of volume.

I bet that after twelve months of use you will not be worried about what you paid for the gear.

given that you're prepared to buy a QF2200, another option is to buy several less expensive routers -- one for each of your most used speciality bits -- and mount each router in it's own table at the correct height for the particular bit. Then there'd be little need to change bits, adjust height, etc.

Not disagreeing but why do you think this?

I don't think I would be able to pick up a good quality moulder for 3k and a new router for plunging as well.

I could also add to the CMS in the future with the table saw.
I could possibably make the table and just get the modules to save some money.

I could also stick with what I have but where is the fun in that

I can't imagine being disappointed with the OF2200.

From the sound of things you want precision, power, etc. You're on the right track!
