6 thick dominoes
Hello,
Is 2no. 6mm thick x 40 long dominoes per joint enough in a 60 X 19 door frame roughly 700 x 400 ?
I built a loose tenon jig and bought the 6mm thick dominoes but they seem a bit short. 1/3 the thickness of the material is great but they'll only protrude 20 into each stile.
Cheers,
Sam

My 2 cents. I would prefer 50mm, but should it be fine with good glue coverage on the dominos and mating pieces of timber.
Think how much surface area is being glued here... per joint...
Dominos: Approx. 2 x 8cm2
Surfaces: Approx.2 x 6cm2
Any thoughts Lignum?

Hi Anthony,
Thanks for replying. Glad you think it will be ok, I suspected they would be however without ever using them I wanted to ask. The glue surface area is what freaked me out as it's about half what I'd have with a hand cut mortice ie 40 long x 6 thick.
I got the 6mm router bit with the intention to make my own floating tenons but
as I'm trying to speed up my output thought I'd go with a pre-made option.

Just make up one joint, not the entire frame. One the glue is set, 'stress test' it and see how it goes.
It should be fine I expect. I just looked back at your original post, 700mm x 400mm is not that large a door to create much stress on those M&T joints.
But I bow to people who might know more than I on this...

If it were me, I would use the 8x50 dominos. Even in 19mm thick timber you will still have 5.5mm of mortise wall on either side. That should be enough.
