Default Battery Upgrade - TDK 12 Drill

    Good Morning Everyone

The battery on my elderly TDK 12 drill is not holding its charge like it used to, and I am wondering if it is possible to upgrade it to a Li Ion battery? Is it worthwhile?

The Festool catalog indicates that the T12+3 and the TDK12 both use the same 12 volt battery pack BPS12S in either NiCd or NiMH. The T12+3 will also take the 10.8 volt Li Ion battery pack BPS12Li, but this latter pack is not listed as suitable for the TDK12. This seems strange.

What is the best battery option for my ever reliable drill?

    Thanks for any insights.

    Graeme

Your problem is likely to be the charger rather than the battery, as the original charger will be optimised for NiCd batteries if that is what was packed in the original - unfortunate for me too, I have a 9.6 volt that has just had the battery fail after 20+ years, these things just don't last do they

I intend to go to Jaycar & buy some replacement sub-C NiCd batteries with tabs & repack my own - Festo use screws not glue, or at least they used to.

    Hi Graeme,

Unfortunately the TDK which was never designed for Li-ion is not compatible with them, only NiCd and NiMh. And as bsrlee points out, neither is the charger that came with the TDK.

So only the 12V NiCd and NiMh packs for you to choose from for the TDK-12.

    Thanks Anthony and bsrlee

Not the answer I wanted, but what I expected! I had not thought about the charger. Still worth asking the question.

    Thanks again
