Brush replacement
Greetings,
I have had an issue with obtaining replacement brushes for an angle grinder. It's not Festool or Protool. The grinder is only 4 or 5 months old and we wore out the brushes after three weeks of hard yakka, fairly recently. Word from my local dealer is that the distributors did not want to supply brushes while it was under warranty, rather they wanted the machine returned to one of their service agents who would replace the brushes and relieve me of $70 for the privilege. Guess who pays freight??? The machine has a 5 year warranty. I am a sparky and it only requires a t15 torx driver to get access to the brushes.
So my question is, Can anyone tell me what Tool Technics policy is on replacement brushes for Festool or Protool??? Can I just order from my usual dealer???
Cheers

If it's not festool or Protool what brand is it. The only brand I know of that's over 5 years is aeg. If you have the model number call the importer so they can give you the part number & who there distributor is so you can order it from

This is not a problem with TTS, just ask any Festool/Protool dealer to supply you with brushes. Either
- Replace them yourself;
- Ask someone suitably qualified (I know you are already qualified but this point is for people who prefer not to or can't replace them theirselves);
- Or ask your dealer to change them for your.

Done This Before.
Hi All,
Take Brushes with you, find something similar & just file them to the required Size.
Worked for me a few Years ago, as I was looking at $18, & bought the others for $6.
Hope it works for you.Regards,

Brushes under Warranty
Understanding that your issue is not with Festool or Protool, however you would like to know where you would stand if you were in this position with either of these brands.
Point one - All Festool or Protool products sold are currently guaranteed to have availability of spare parts for seven years from time of purchase, even if the line is discontinued.
Point two - provided the extended warranty form is submitted, warranty covers parts and labour for three years.
Point three, Warranty does not cover wearing of consumable parts, including brushes, blades, leads, unless the cause of the failure is due to poor workmanship or materials.
As Festool and Protool are engineered for professional use, you should find that the brushes out last those in tools engineered for DIY use.
I meet many Festool and Protool users who work through their brushes, as they use their tools constantly. Their comment more often than not is that their tools out perform anything else they have tried.
Quality tools are just that, quality, not indestructible.
Note, this is just my understanding, and I stand to be corrected. Hope this is of some use though.

Clarification
Thank you all for the replies.
I do own both Festool and Protool products. I am very happy with both. I would have been quite surprised if TTS had any policy other than what they have stated and reinforced by Anthony. However, one never knows unless one asks!
I also own Dewalt, Milwaulkie, Dremel and even a Makita or maybe two??.
Steve, As you point out quality tools are just that, quality tools, they are not indestructable. Parts do wear. It just seems incredible to me that any tool company would make getting replacement brushes difficult for it's customers. This tool was priced at the more expensive end of the market (the other brands I considered, at about the same price point, were Protool and Metabo) so I did not see this as a DIY tool. I can't say for sure if the brushes wore out faster than other brands. Other than a quibble with the ergonomics of the power switch and it would be good if it had an anti-vibration side handle, I have no issues with the tool itself.
My apologies for not making all this a little clearer in my original post.
Because I am unsure of any possible legal implications (both for myself and the forum owners) I will not name the brand concerned. However the chances of my ever buying another of their tools is pretty much nil. And you can bet I would not recommend them to anyone either.
I am sure that brushes would be available from a third party supplier.
Cheers
