    Default Buying direct from US

I'm hoping to join the Festool Owners Club (domino and dust package) but prices have proved a giant hurdle. As the dollar axchange at the moment is so good I was looking at US prices and suddenly the product comes into the almost affordable bracket (As long as She Who Must Be Obeyed gives the me control of the purse strings). Has anyone had experience in buying from America and what were transportation costs like.
    Thanks

    > $1000 involves customs fees

Shipping from the US went through the roof last year

Tools will have 110v chargers or motors

You will need to check if the warranty is valid here.

Don't look at US prices you'll drive yourself mad!

    Or relocate!

They can't even get those prices in Germany! I still haven't heard a good reason why that is.

I'd stay well clear of running a 110v machine on 240v even with a good converter.

By the time you've paid freight, bought a good converter and lost your warranty, you will have paid alot closer to the Aussie price.

I will add that if Festool decided to put their tool prices even 10% - 20% above the US prices for Australia I for one would have a heck of alot more of their stuff. I'm sure I'm not alone on that one. I'd be more inclined to have the tools that I would not use so often but make do without now using the ones I do have. I'm sure I'd have invested in another drill, router & 2 more MFT's AT US PRICES! That's not counting the tools on my wish list to get!

A lot of electrical equipment now comes out that will run on 240 & 110 volt without adapters. Check the little power info panel and where it says AC if the range is from 100-240V then you are good to go. We have this problem quite often in the Navy with some of our ships being ex-US Navy. They are all powered for 110v internally so when we need a new drill if the panel indicates it works through the range then we can use it onboard. Obviously there are other issues for you to consider but power might not be as big an issue as first indicated.

Corbs (who would love some lime green stuff in the garage but can't afford it)
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

    Default Buying direct from USA

Electrical is a problem as suggested above. Have bought a number of Veritas planes from Lee Valley. I also bought an 18V DeWalt 6 tool combo which cost $900 about half what it cost here.It included a 240v charger. Arrived by post within 10 days from ordering over ebay. No GST or taxes.

Very happy with products and delivery.
