If I purchase a Domino in the USA will the only modification required just include replacing the plug?

How about battery powered stuff
ok the charger will be different, how much is a replacement charger, can you specify an Aus/UK changer? Still got to be worth the savings? Anyone done this?

I have one of those voltage converters for 110 -240 V I used with a soldering Iron I bought from the States. I presume that will work with the Domino?

Silly question, but wouldn't a domino for the US market have all the scales and markings in imperial rather than metric?
Or are Festool trying to bring the USA into the brave new world of metric measurement?

1.The Domino doesn't have a charger.
2. The markings are metric.
3 How big does the 110/240 step up transformer have to be? I'd suggest you'd need a fair size to cope with the power drain at start up.

Clogger,
Don't know what the power consumption is but I would anything over 500 watts a stepdown transformer is around the $400 mark and that's upto 1000 watts after that you are looking at big bucks. So in short your soldering iron stepdown won't run the Domino you will have to buy one rated to higher than the Domino's consumption.

Clogger ,
Go for it - I reckon a precision German tool, bought in the good ole US of A, plugged into a cheap s#^t Chinese voltage step down transformer would make an excellent soldering iron.
Oh , and good luck with your warranty claim
BTW Bleeder the Domino is rated at 420 watts

Hi. Clogger, I just purchased a dewalt 2 1/4 hp fixed base router from Rockler in the US and I also had to buy a 3300 watt step dow transformer to run it . You will definitely need a transformer at least twice the wattage of your domino maybe more if tou do'nt you will only be able to run it for about five minutes and then let the transformer rest for fifteen to cool down. If you do buy a transformer make sure it has the correct female socket to suit your plug on the end of the cord it will probably be a nema 5-15 north american config.
Good luck.
Bricey.

There are very good quality torodial step down transformers available for under $200 for a 2000 watt unit - you just need to search. The ones sold by Australian sellers are approved for use in Australlia.
And yes the really cheap sub $100 2000 watt units available only from overseas are indeed crap. I know, as I came across one locally and opened it up - bare wires everywhere inside a metal case! The transformer was lightweight too, so the claimed power seemed dubious. It is with the scrap dealers now.

Hi again Clogger, the transformer I bought cost me $125 dollars of ebay from a seller in Victoria It was an english made unit by carrol and meynell 3.3 kva rated to run continually at 1650 watts so a 2.0 kva (2000 watt) would be plenty big enough for your domino . When I bought mine there were 2000 watt units going for $180 or so plus freight which sounded quite good . Freight might be a little exy dependind on where you live as they are quite heavy , mine was 18 kg .
Cheers,
Bricey

Clogger, which online shop are you going to buy from ? I bought a few tools from Toolking.com but they don't shop Dewalt and Festool tools outside USA.
