It depends on where you're sourcing it from. Each day I look i seem to find cheaper and cheaper prices and depends on the approach. In that if you buy direct from a UK retail it can be the difference between buying a saw here for $899 or in the UK for $659 .. then when you start layering in accessories etc the price begins to drop as well.
I've been contacted offline about going on a direct import from Germany itself, in that bypass the retail and source straight from factory which again layers in cheaper costs .. how much i'm not exactly sure.

Well, mossyblog, since I have a fair idea who your offline mate is, I wish you all the best in dealing with Germany.
All the best...

I have plenty to say in response to a couple of the assumptions that have been made by OP in relation to my last post. But I shall only say this.
My purchasing relationships are forged by an even handed approach and presenting the retail options with facts pertaining to my possible other purchasing avenues. At the end of the day, I think I am no more empowered by the quantity or regularity of my purchasing. More power is obtained by applying good purchasing strategies and smiling a lot. Attitude wins me discounts more often than not.
You catch more fly's with honey than with vinegar.
Best of luck.

Cool? i guess... cryptic as well.. like to me, right now i'm picturing that "Comic book" guy from the Simpsons saying that as if your life has been building up to this one moment where you think i'm cornered in my endeavour to purchase.
Meanwhile I'm flying to Berlin in 3 weeks for my work, given I work for a large global corporation which puts me on planes more often than I sadly care to admit.
You're move champ.

You're a retail mountain sage and we all bow before your wisdom and deep insights
Oh and you technically don't get more flies with honey than vinegar. For fun, put down a bowl of Balsamic Vinegar and bowl of honey side by side - if you live near a fruit orchard you'll soon realise that old idiom doesn't actually hold true.. even though the "get more with sweetness than you do with acidic..." is your underlying point ..its just a bit odd to keep hearing that being said...
Much like in software you see "Save" is a 3.4" disk icon... ...when was the last time you used a 3.4" disk

Mossyblog,
Your arrogance is matched only by your rudeness. Go buy your Festools and leave it at that.

I overloaded it with smiley emoticons which one would assume as being given in a giggle/smirk/humours tone...not a toxic devilish "Grrr suck that jerk" approach.
I'm limited by the emoticons i'm given...
And truth be told, his honey/vinegear remark was a little patronising ..and i'm stating that his idiom is broken what he should have said was "If you want to gather honey, don't kick over the beehive.."

I am? in that i dont' recall asking for anyones approval, i recall asking what advice or areas of concern are there in the community of Festool ownership around doing this. Some of these responses have given me pause to think on what the pro's & con's are. Ideally i'm after a simple list of Pro's vs Con's that isn't mixed in the Festool fan-a-cop(s) who troll forums like this ready to stomp on any hint of a rationale calm conversation. We have diverted into the whole "Hurt the retail chain" fear, uncertainty and doom concerns which I think we've collectively exhausted.
So yeah its really about making a simple checkbox... What are the benefits of importing and what are the negatives of importing (let's chalk "potentially hurting local business" in the second column).

mossyblog,
Congratulations for being in a position where you go overseas at someone else's expense.
While there it is an opportunity to obtain tools and accessories at the local price and then you can bring them back home to use.
The rest of us mere mortals can in the mean time choose to go to our local store, chat with the staff, learn how to use the tools, purchase them and take them home and use them. If we have a problem, help is not far away. We can also choose to make an online purchase from the local (Australia) store and also know (as I found out when one of my Festool purchase did not work properly) help is not far away, and still support the local economy. The option is also there to make an online purchase from elsewhere with all the risks involved.
The choice is yours.

Handy, Thank you.
I think we've exhausted the implied benefits of local store vs import a few times now would you say? so what would you say is the benefits of importing or any new additional negatives come to mind other than warranty, friendly smiles, local economy boost. .... how about any experience with hidden costs etc?

Take a break and go to your sheds for a while or you may get a forum holiday.
No need to pick on each other and get personal.
Keep your arguments on topic.
Always remember that the person who gets personal has run
out of ideas to do with the topic and has lost it.
