Got this from Ebay last night:

    Hello ricgstevens,

Our records indicate that you recently received an email from 6206_camping through eBay's email system and that it may contain a fraudulent offer to purchase or sell an item off the eBay site.

    * Please consider the following safety tips before you act on this email:

    - Do not respond to the sender if the message is an offer to buy or sell an item outside the eBay website. This type of offer is against eBay policy and if the transaction takes place, it will not be eligible for buyer protection.

    - If you received what looks like a Second Chance Offer for an item you recently bid on and it's appearing in My Messages it may not be legitimate. Real Second Chance Offers appear in My Messages with a blue background and the subject line 'eBay Second Chance Offer for Item ...'.

    - Never pay for your eBay items using instant cash wire transfer services such as Western Union or MoneyGram.

    * If you already sent payment for an item that was bought outside the eBay website, or if you shipped an item to a fraudulent buyer, we suggest you take the following steps:

    - Contact the payment service you used to make the purchase and ask if they provide consumer protection in cases of online fraud. If you shipped an item to a fraudulent buyer, contact the carrier you used.

    - Contact the local authorities in the area where the seller/buyer resides.

    * Please also take the time to provide more information on the transaction bought/sold outside of eBay. The information you provide will help us work with law enforcement if an investigation occurs. Go to the following page and choose 'Item Bought Outside of eBay' or 'Item Sold Outside of eBay' and follow the instructions.

Too little too late for some I fear!

Got the exact same email yesterday myself.
    regards

That email is an automated response from ebay's system for any email between users which isn't linked to an itme currently for sale, or which you have bid on.

I've received the same one on quite a few occasions.
    Cheers, Richard

The guy still had a festool item for auction last night (15th) but i notice it has been withdrawn this morning.

I'm not trying to hijack the thread but do others have a strong leaning towards other on line auctions that have a better reputation and customer relations than E bay (apart from Buy Sell and Swap). Mainly interested in tools, timber, etc. Would like a recommendation.

Grays Online is where I like to play for this sort of stuff. But beware the buyers premium and GST.........and the fact that in many cases it is pick-up only.
Ours is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.

Something strange happening on ebay - these sales have now disappeared from the "completed listings"

Just curious to know if anyone knows the outcome for those guys that paid money to this conman! Sounds like ebay could have prevented at least some of them from loosing money with this guy!

Happened to me once - had my ebay acocunt hijacked. My own fault really - beware of what you click on in emails. At least in my case the creep got busted and my account was returned to me before any of the auctions finished and no-one was out any money.

The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".
