    Default CT36 w Boom Arm

I've been rapidly growing my collection of Festool in recent times (systainers breed!) and one of my latest acquisitions has been the CT36 (and even more recently the Boom Arm)

My brief questions at this stage about the Boom Arm is 2 fold.

Firstly, it seemed to come with some poles (feet) and bracing members, clamps etc that don't seem to be needed.

Secondly, I still live in too small-a-shed. Any ideas on non-destructively limiting the maximum height of the boom arm?

    Cheers,
    Stuart

    Hi Stu,

The two additional 'bent poles' and cross-braces are to extend out the back or side of the extractor to increase to limit any potential tipping of the extractor and boom arm if the boom arm and pole are really yanked on. Especially if you are using the boom arm around the back of the extractor. I find that unless I am using the boom arm around the back of the extractor I don't really need to rely on them. But judge for yourself the stability of the extractor and boom arm with your own usage habits.

As for reducing the boom arm height. How about increasing the height of your shed?

    Stu,

I have a ct33 with boom arm, i am not sure if the design has changed with the ct36, but the boom clamps to the rear of the collector via a straight arm. There is some flexibility there, where you should be able to gain some height, just by clamping it lower.

If you cut the straight portion you might even be able to gain some more height, but there is a kink near the hand rail so you'd have to make sure this wont cause any problems.

The attached pics are from Installing the Festool Boom ############ Page 2 showing the base and the kink.

PS I never put the legs on my ct33 and never had a problem, the unit is fairly heavy and therefore stable. They are probably needed on the smaller units.

Increasing size and height of the shed - that'd be the best solution by far.... one day

The bottom of the pole fits into the low-mounted tool holder, so simply clamping lower is only an option if I attach the pole to the side of the vac handle itself - not out of the question (pity the spare black clamps are for the thinner pole sections!)

I had considered cutting would be a solution, but I live in hope that in the long run the shed will magically grow, so wouldn't want to do anything non-reversable.

I've found with the CT36 that it seems plenty-stable to not need the extra support legs (especially when it starts getting some load in the bag!)

Overall, looks very cool. Now just need to add the second switchable power-out and the hose/power combination for tools where I am not using the boom. Surprised some Festools still have an attached power cable (such as my new BS105) rather than using the excellent Plug-it concept.
