Discontinued item BF 1 E Band file
I went to purchase some new belts for my FESTO BF 1 E today and discovered that it has been discontinued, I can’t believe it!
I know that i can get belts as Makita makes a similar item and their belts do fit the but it’s just not the same is it! And what if I need replacement components someday!
I know that this tool is used extensively by film industry dudes to carve all sorts of stuff, but I guess the bottom line is that if it didn’t sell in sufficient numbers then it didn’t deserve to be continued.
This would be my second most loved Festool behind the track saw, it is just such a useful tool and great for getting you out of trouble, does anybody else share my remorse?

hi hofner and welcome to the forum.
festool keep old product parts for up to seven years.
i have never seen this tool you are talking about. it must be more than ten years old.
i assume it is a power file.
i have a festool bs 105 belt sander and never buy festool belts.
i prefer the cheaper brands that i can buy from any hardware store.
for spare parts. i recommend ebay.de
the german site has thousands of new and old festools for sale.
justin.

It sure is a pity they discontinued it. A few months ago they were selling one at an auction site here, and I seriously considered getting it (I don't really like buying second hand tools, (no invoice for my business and no warranty) and it was a long drive to pick it up).
The thing I liked most was that it had the accesory head which turns it into a ras 115 sander. I rarely "need" a bandfile or the ras, but having the two in a single systainer would have come in handy occasionally.
The link to the ad is gone since it has been sold, but I found a link about the sander conversion thing :link
(This link makes it look a diy conversion, like you can transform a ras180 into a rustofix and vice versa, but for the bf1e it was an accessory that meant to go with the tool, it even had it's own place in the systainer-inlay; at least, that's the way I remember it, having doubts now)

Yes it’s a powerfile, and probably is ten years old, basically a Festool angle grinder/polishing machine with a rotating belt system attached to a M14 spindle.
The idea of using third party belts is ok, but there are three different widths of belt with my system, 6mm, 12mm and 16mm. also the finest grit that was available was 180 and I suspect I will have to have that one made up, surprisingly handy for getting a beautiful finish on timber and soft metals.
It is a really chunky and well made tool, way more agricultural than the oposition from Makita or Black & Decker.
Basically you can point it at a piece of timber and just bore a square hole straight into it, I have used it for cleaning out rusty metal, faceting and rounding all manner of materials, de-burring after cutting aluminum, increasing the diameter of a hole, making a square hole etc, etc. . . .
It’s just disappointing when you have been using and advocating the benefits of something this cool for years and years to find it is no longer around.
I’m really interested to see if there are others who share my opinion, however most Festool junkies are like yourself and have never even seen one! I guess it’s a collectors piece and i would never sell it.
Thanks for the heads up on the German e-Bay option, I hadn’t thought of that!
thanks,
Scott.

A ras 115!! well that’s something I didn’t know about, I’ll be having a look at that link for sure. There are several interesting indents in the sustainer insert and I have always wondered what they are for!
I use mine all the time, maybe I’m a bit of a butcher!

Ok, I had a look at that link, thanks.
So it looks like the accessories for BF 1 E and the RAS 180 fully interchangeable?
If a second hand BF 1 E came up for sale I would definitely snap it up!
