Docking lengths on Kapex KS120
Can anyone please advise a quick and simple way of docking 600mm lengths of 140 x 14 pine on a bench mounted Kapex KS120 sliding compound mitre saw, as seen here?
It does not have an extendable rail or anything like that which can be set so you get the same length with each cut, and I find it quite annoyingregards,

you can clamp a stop to your bench if it is long enough. if not put a stop on a saw horse the right distance from the blade and weight it down so it doesn't move
be gentle when presenting the stock to the stop
cheers

Attach a fence that's long enough (mdf, ply, as long as it's straigt) to your kapexs fence. I did this on my makita using small bolts that went through preexisting holes in the fence. You could also try double sided tape.
From there clamp a stop to the fence and you can cut repeatable cuts all day.
I can post a pic of my setup if you like.

Sub fence and clamps or if mounted flush to the bench clamp a stop to the bench. Make sure if you use the latter that the saw can't move either.

Gday Jill I picked up one of these from deals direct for $80.00 drilled 4 holes and the kapex fitted
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they
bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs .

Jill, I am in the process of making some extensions at the moment and are using the Kreg top track measuring system with a swing stop. Kreg also make a left and right hand tape that can be mounted to the track. I bought all the Kreg pieces at Carbatec a while ago, but will finally get a chance to put it all together in the next 2 weeks. I have also purchased the crown stops for my Kapex and are going to attach them to the extensions so that I don't have to recalibrate the Kreg tape every time I remove the extensions from the saw. I saw a thread a year ago on the Festool Owner Group Forum from someone in the States doing this.It is an expensive way of doing things, but I need it to be removable while maintaing accuracy and repeatability. I have the link on my PC at home and will try to link it tonight when I get home from work. Since going down this path though, festool have decided to make their own extensions now. But my option is still cheaper!

Hey Jill,
Below are some pics that might help you. The first one is the fence I made for my Makita LS1214. As you can see it's made out of MDF and I secured the base and fence with bolts through the preexisting holes. I made this fence quite short as I was using it for box making and I wanted repeatable cuts using the stop. Just make it whatever length you like, iv'e actually taken mine out and plan to make a new one (longer) out of hardwood.
Gifkins dovetail have plans on their site. check it out - http://www.gifkins.com.au/Custom%20Fence.pdf
The second photo is one I found on the net, it looks like it folds out and can be put away for easy storage.
Another option is a crosscut sled on your table saw - just a thought.
Good luck,
Andy

fence for miter saw - Google Search
I find myself using the Google image search for more and more stuff, either that or youtube.CHRIS
