Domino Demo
I received an email this morning from Festool with an invitation to get in contact with them for various things so I took up their kind offer and asked for a demo to show me the finer points of using my Domino. A few hours later I had a phone call and the rep will come to my place on Monday week and show me all the tricks he knows. I thought that was pretty good and so it should be considering the price of a new Domino. Mine was a once used machine, it had inserted one Domino so a lot cheaper to buy than a new one.

It certainly is good customer service having a rep drop around and demo - explain a tool. Part of me wonders however how this service impacts on the cost of the product. I wonder how many $'s is spent by the reps to offer this service against the sales received. A series of demonstrations at a local retailer - a captive audience all oohing and aahing over the product with the retailer ready to sell the product on the spot would be a logical alternative. Yes, I know somebody will say that there is no local retailer around so its good that the rep does house calls - if you are not near a retailer the cost of the rep visiting is even higher!

You have to understand that the hobby market side of the business is not Festool's main focus the trade side is what they go after. The reps are on the road all the time doing stuff like this and direct selling the product to the trades.

I fully agree Chris that their main interest is in trade customers and not hobbyists. I don’t know which category that you fall into so my post wasn’t directed directly at you, however over the past few months I have noticed increased tales of increased interaction between Festool reps and non trade customers.

I am just a hobby wood butcher who sometimes accidently makes something worth having. Most hobbyists don't understand Festool and how they go about their business and it is they that Festool put last. You only have to look at their product line to see it is trade oriented. Peter, I don't think the video will happen as I have no way of recording good audio.
