New Domino Fence Plate for 4mm Cutter and Thin 8-14mm Stock
New, well new for me
A base for the fence to allow the centering of a mortise on 8-14mm stock using the 4mm cutter.
Here is my Ligtool hybrid design
Pic 1- Take one perfectly good Festool Trim Stop and remove all hardware, cut the two side wings off (if you dont want to revert to the original, but my tip is, you will wont to as this is a ripper jig if you are into boxes or work where you constantly use thin stock. Then just go buy another Trim Stop)
Pic 2 - Slip shoe plate back on. That will add an extra 4mm to the base plate.
Pic 3 - just another angle
Pick 4 - Shows the left side mortise, in a 10mm board, with the Domi fence on the lowest 14mm height setting.
The right side mortise shows the result when the Ligtool Shoe is fitted to the base, and the height setting is set to 20mm. Perfect center alignment. If you want to center an 8mm board, just set the Domi fence on the 16mm setting.
I have on order via Post some some 4mm and .5mm black plastic that will be used as an infill for the jig so small widths can be plunged. Will post an update when completed. I love this jig, and its well worth the expense of rooting a perfectly good Trim Stop.

Ok so I could use the 5mm to join a 10mm bit of stock...
I want to make a box lid and instead of using tongue and grove I think I'll use the domino. The kit I got has all the cutters except 4mm.
But if you wanted to could you use the 5mm on 8mm stock... ? Or much better off buying a 4mm cutter ?
Thanks for answering my questions Terry

Hey Terry just another question
What is the min thickness stock you can use with the 4mm cutter and the plate that it comes with? Does your jig basically allow you to use even thinner stock?
Given the minumin you can centre on the domi with the 5mm is 14mm (that right?)

Is there any way to retrofit the old pins?
I've got the newer version with the paddles and I find them virtually useless anywhere but the edge of a board. They certainly don't locate into a cut domino mortice to line up the next cut as I'd expect the pins do.
I have the extension wings that do have pins but I find I'm usually looking for something about half the minimum distance on the wings - ie, just about where the paddles are...
I suppose I could file the paddles into a pin shape.
Sorry for all the whinging, good idea with the 'Ligtool'. I got hold of the 4mm cutter a while ago and it's had plenty of use so far. Highly recommended.

Yes, let us know how you go Steve. I was fully expecting the stupid little darn useless paddle things to fit into the holes - just like the pins did!
Is this the only difference between the old and new model?
Seems a very backward step - but I think it was due to some patent violation that pins had with some other machine?
Nathan.
