    Default Domino Pin Magnets

Has anyone had success using ring magnets as spacers on the guide pins to reduce the distance from edge to mortice?

If so which magnets and from what source?

    thanks
    Mat

    Hi Matt,
There was some talk of this on another forum. The magnets were rare earth, 10mm wide if I recall correctly. Apparently this idea works very well. You just add as many as you need along the front. I haven't used or even purchased any yet, but I did find this place.

    Hope it helps,

    Regards,

The trouble with the ring magnets on both Aust web sites is that when you look at the rim size ie from central hole to outside perimeter you only get a few mm's shift. To make the process worthwhile you probably need more.
The spacers made with a magnet to keep them in place is probably the way to go or the spacer board as per festoolowners group.

To maintain accuracy I would want the exact same piece of material to be between the pin and workpiece in both directions. Therefore whatever is used should be "flippable"

The magnets do not need to be ring magnets for this purpose; ordinary disc-shaped rare-earth magnets stick firmly to the Domino's pins, and work very well as spacers. Carbatec stock 8 mm and 10 mm diameter ones in 3 mm and 5 mm thicknesses, which can be used in various combinations to make 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 15 mm spacers.

How stable are the magnets just sitting on the side of the pin. Don't they just rotate around to the bottom under gravity?

    Mat,

The RE magnets are so powerful that they easily stick to the sides of the pins without moving in response to gravity.
