    Default Domino'd AND pinned?

I'm making some chairs with a Blue Hills sort of WIP in another thread and I've been wondering about the practicality and value of Domino'd AND pinned (possibly draw bored) joints?
The pluses would be the usual
    • Avoidance of clamps during assembly and glueing
    • potentially long life strength
    • appearance (although non structural pins could be faked of course)
    • bragging rights!

I expect the negatives would be
    • Extra work (but OK if extra strength and/or appearance)
    • Potentially weakening the joint (see below)
    • just plain silly!

My fear is that, as I 'only' have the Domino500, the greatest length of domino inside a joint is only 25mm and so I would only be able to have the pin a max of (say) 13mm from the edge. traditionally, pins would be 25 mm from the edge. I've sketched up one of the T joints I would like to pin, and a pin 13mm either side of the joint line looks pretty good especially when the pin is square, contrasting colour and assembled as a 45deg diamond.
I will only get to avoid clamping if the pin is draw bored but you can't draw bore a loose tenon so I would have to glue and straight-pin the domino into one piece, let it dry and then draw bore into the other piece which defeats the glory of the Domino? (I can feel ME talking ME out of it!)
i've searched if anyone else has done it but all I've found so far is one poor gentlemen who, to justify his DOMINO, had to do the list of jobs his wife had PINNED in the workshop!
    Any thoughts?

I think it would look good Fletty. In reality, the domino joint by itself would be structurally sound. One pin is decorative while the second is both decorative and structural. The joint is still draw bored with all of the draw boring advantages (tighter joint, no clamps and purdy )
You could go all Greene and Greene on us and use ebony pins/plugs.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

    Good thinking bowmeister!
i don't need to glue and fix one end first. I could pre-drill the pieces to be joined and jig drill the holes through the domino with the spacing being 'a fat 32nd of an inch' less on the domino ...or is it 2 x 'fat 32nds' because I'm doing 2 ends ?
for those not initiated in American magazine-speak, a 'fat 32nd' = 1 mm ...but don't tell them, it's a secret!

I would probably go for a fat 32nd overall (is that 2x skinny 32nds). Maybe do a test on a domino and see how they react to the boring & drawing.

You could glue the first domino in place.
    Drill andpin it.

Then drawbore the second with you fat 32.

I would have thought that would be easier and reduce the double calculation ( or in my case, double error).
