    Default ets sander losing power

My ets 150/5 eq sander has been losing power/speed while in use. At first I thought I was imagining it because it was only intermittent. Today tho it was very noticeable, my first thought was that the brushes are on the way out(I haven't replaced them in the 8 years I've had it).they seemed fine to me. Would they be the push Off variety?
I blew the machine out with air and put back together, still the same problem. I then wondered if it was the connection where the lead plugs into the back of the machine. When I pulled the lead off I noticed an electrical smell and that one of the machine pins are blackened more than the other.
could it be this needs replacing, or the lead?

    Greetings jrock_au

It sounds like it's your plug-it plug at the back of the unit. Call Anthony at Ideal Tools and discuss it with him. It's a pretty simple part to replace on your own. That said, I've found that masking tape around the fitting, with the cord attached works wonders.

    Regards,

    Rob

Thanks Rob, I'm hoping it's something as simple as that, I tend to think the worst. I.e. the electronics playing up......
I've replaced the "plug" in my router after snapping off one of the pins and as you say it is easy.

Lead failures on the plug it lead are one of the most common faults, if the machine is that old & you have never changed it 90% it will be that. You might also want to change the brushes as they might be too worn to save you changing them later. Also remove the pad & check the eccentric bearing which is the one that is connected to the spindle that the pad connects to
