The festool 6' sander problem
Hi Ya'll
I have a couple of 6' festool orbital sanders that keep crapping out on me due to the annoying design flaw of the power lead in the back.
Now am I holding this thing wrong, ( should be using my lips or something) or am I too eager to rip off inches of wood or is it not just me, AND if its not me ... anyone come up with a way to fix it?

I am going to go with the easiest thing here not knowing the actual model of sanders you have so please do not be insulted
Don't they have the to lock that is common to a lot of their tools?
Put the plug in and then twist to lock it into place....
I only mention this because its something I'd miss
(Edit - give us the model/s and I am sure there will be someone here who can be more helpful than me and the basics)Last edited by thetassiebfg; 30th April 2007 at 05:42 PM. Reason: extra info

I assume you are talking about the plug-it power lead? It should be inserted and twisted about 1/4 turn to seat properly. When new, the leads can be hard to turn and you will think you locked it in but you haven't. I had the same problem with my Domino until I forced the lead to lock in and problem solved.
With use, it will get easier to turn.
If this is not your problem, then what is it in more detail please.
[NB: Also, make certain you have the proper cord for your tool. There are two cord weights (gauges) and while the bigger one will fit the smaller tools, the smaller one will not fit the larger tools.]Last edited by Honorary Bloke; 1st May 2007 at 04:02 AM. Reason: More information

Bird, i was talking to Albert Davies over at the www.festoolownersgroup.com
and he suggested you have the wrong cord as their are two different plugs. I looked at my 3 plugs and i have an odd one out as well.

I have posted this one before, but worth another look. Lignum is right, there are two Plug-it configurations. One fits a limited number of machines, the other fits all machines. Not sure though if The Bird has more than one type of Festool tool and therefore may end up with two types.
But I would say that if you were trying to get the 'limited' version into a Festool that did not take it, it would be one hell of an effort to make the pins contact.
