Router
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has been lucky enough to actually use the 1400W Festool router? If so, thoughts, observations??
Many thanks,
Danny

I've been using one for the better part of a year now. Overall, its a very nice router. Plenty of power and very very smooth plunge action. I also really like the fact it will take large diameter bits (unlike the OF1010 I also have). The edge guide that came with mine is a nice surprise. Its extremely well built and it works excellent.
The dust collection on it is just okay. A little better than most of the other routers I either own or have used (Porter Cable, Milwaukee and Bosch mostly), but its not in the same league as the TS saws or the domino or anything. The dust chute on it is pretty flimsy, IMO. Its pretty easy to break it if you aren't careful with it. The little cup they give you for edge routing gets in the way far too much for my taste and I don't use it.
For me, the router felt very awkward in my hands when I first got it. I've become accustomed to it now though. I reach for it before most of my other routers as I feel its the best one I own. I use it mostly with the rails and the LR32 hole drilling jig, so I am pretty glad I have it. However, if I had to do it over again, I'm not 100% sure I'd buy it again. While its an excellent router, its not that far ahead of the competition which is typically priced at about half what the OF1400 is here in the US.
Just my opinion of course...

In my opinion the OF 1400 is a nice piece. Handy functions but it's power is too light for real heavy (big bits) routing and the the machine is too heavy for fine routing (small bits). Therefore I'm still very satisfied with my OF 1010 and OF 2000.

I really like using one hand to plunge with and using the guide rail with the router for dados is great. Most of my routers don't have any DC hook ups. Dewalt is ok for DC and the Bosch is so so...
