    Default Festool ETS 150/5 E

First off the dumb question Do the Festool use a standard power plug or do they plug into something else? Have an option of the ETS 150/5 E but working out if will suit my needs. Moving up from an Ozito so gotta be better than that but is it good for getting a good finish or should I am for something different. The guy wants 300 bucks for it Worth it at that price? Just machine itself nothing else

    TIA

Yes they use a standard power plug. There is a separate plug-it cable where one end goes in the tool, the other a standard plug. The idea is to plug it into a Festool vacuum which provides a power plug (and which will then also turn the vacuum on and off as you run the sander) but it can go straight into a wall socket.

Very good sander and sounds good value.

As long as it hasn't been used hard by a tradie.

I have a couple and they have been going well for over ten years.

    No comparison with the Ozito.
Hardly vibrates in your hand and runs much cooler.
    The finish is super smooth.

It is powerful enough to strip paint with 40 grit and give fine cabinets a super smooth finish with 320 or 400 grit.

Always run it connected to a shop vac. A cheap one will work fine.

I do think you meant 40 grit -not 400 for paint stripping! Yeah a good tool - pay through the nose for it. Avoid some of the Festo cordless stuff - the jigsaw is rubbish and the drill not quite adequate either (both keep cutting out -far too easily) Rorexes are the too - expensive as is all Festo. New prices are outrageous but must be compared for second hand to know if is worth it or not

you will hate the thing, I assure you. Absolutely would I lie to you

I got one in leu of overtime 28 years ago, I have not been gentle on it. It has sanded timber, metal, rusted metal, fiberglass lots and keeps coming back. I replaced the velcro pad Nov last year.

Be wary - sounds like the first stages of Festoolitus.

Default I stuffed up really badly

I fell into the Festoolitus trap and purchased the 500 Domino and a The ETS/EC150/5 sander.

Frist of many questions I am sure.

Comes with a power cord so it makes noise like it should but it doesn't have the Vacuum cord. Seeing the prices online for the cord and they cost about a 1/3 of what I paid for the Domino. Is there an adapter around that someone could recommend that I can plug in an old Ryobi workshop vac to it. Have a cyclone but think I read somewhere these need HPLV instead.

Also recommendations on Sandpaper for it and is it worth getting a pad saver for the sander

Wow, that is serious - a double dose.

I just got a Festool hose adaptor from the Festool shop about 10 years ago and use another vacuum with Festool tools.

I prefer Abrunet sandpaper, and its best to use a pad underneath it - also helps the vacuum process. [Have not tried Festool mesh papers.] This thread may be relevant:

Finally, now you are addicted to Festoolitus, have you discovered FOG yet - the Festool Owners Group Forum?

Mafell tools are a little up-market from Festool in Europe and their Forum is also interesting:

    Default They were s/h

So didn’t go too far over the top. Now gotta work out to use the thing. Graeme you mentioned the adapter from Festool site. Could you show me a link to one. I must be blind in one eye and can’t see out the other as the ones I am looking at don’t seem to be machine connector end.

Best place to get pad savers at reasonable price?

    Thank you

Had a quick look and could not find it either.

I just went into the Festool shop and asked. He just got it off the wall display. Took 5 minutes to fit.

    Default Part number

Don’t suppose there is a part number on it? No Festool shops up this way. If not all good will call them Monday.

No number on it. Will not necessarily be the same for you as you have to match it to the diameter of your existing vacuum hose.

Really; when I lived in Brisbane, C&L Tools out near the airport were quite good.
