I agree with Anthony and Jim. I have purchased (not much) from both and will do so again. I do wish to however tell of one small experience at a well known woodworking tool supplier in Aus. I watched as a lad was attempting to show a customer how the new Festool jigsaw worked and knew so little about it. I helped out and the sale was made. I hope this is not the service we should expect from some Festool dealers.
Regards
Les

one of the reasons why i now buy from Anthony was because the local festool dealer on the gold coast overcharged me on a systainer by $30.00. Considering i had dropped $1200.00 on a festool router, i saw it as a money grab.
I also hate the fact that after research on youtube and FOG, i go into the shop with more knowledge than the sales guy.
Anthonys service and help with a part i wrongly ordered also spoke volumes about his business and commitment to festool. this is why i buy from him now.
you get tyre kickers in every business. The kitchen business is no different, i do legwork for quotes that then get shopped down the road for a cheaper price.

It will be interesting to see if the new minimum retail prices are similar to the current Festool RRP. If this is the case, then I expect many potential buyers will be switching to other brands.

In it's most basic form...
What we here in OZ have become is focussed on the dollar, and place no value on the service and advice we receive.
I was in printing for 37 years, self employed for ~20 of those. The light went on for me when at networking events or meeting somebody for the first time, the first question out of their mouth was "how much for 500 business cards?"
The salient facts are business cards are but a tiny amount of most businesses print spend. They are also one of the most important, you don't get a second chance to make a first impression...so why scrimp on great cards???
I also heard of a snow ski outfitters charging $50.00 to try on ski boots. Folk would come in spend time with the staff get the size/style and then go order online. Once you paid the $50.00 it would come off the end purchase price when you bought.
Another one is the bloke I met from a dive and surf shop. The kids would do the same, come try on wetsuits and go away to order online.
This guy got a little clever by contacting the US manufacturer and got them on side. If they came in tried on and ordered there and then they got a discount, and only had to pay when they went to collect. This got over the online payment hoodoo. And they had two visits to the store for opportunities for impulse buys. If they tried on and went away he presented them with a discount voucher that would credit him with the sale at the manufacturer, so he got a cop. He then reduced his inventory heaps. Just had a couple of each size, and one each of the colours. He reduced the size of the shop by 1/3 and it saved his business.
Don't know about you but I feel almost dishonest taking someones time and spending the money elsewhere. Often times I feel the sales guy does not deserve my spend as he has no interest, does not engage with me, or does not know his stuff. Then I move on...
