Is the hook pad on your machine clean, not worn down are they?

Try some Festool sanding discs and if they stay on, that would suggest that the other ones aren't compatible.

Shouldnt be worn down its only 5 years old and 2 years of that was in a box, and then only used rarely. Got it as a deal in lieu of overtime .......he he he saved both ways I didnt loose OT money in tax, company got tax concessions for extra tools

Heat is the enemy of the hook and loop as it wears down the pile quickly if overworked.

The other problem is if you were sanding at the time it came of you may not have been quick enough to lift the machine before it did quite a few revolutions on the timber wearing down the pile. Worn pile no grip on discs.

Once you do this then the coarser grades will not hang on as they get more grip on the timber than the hook does on the loop. You may get away using the finer grits for a little while but you usually need to replace the pad.

The new discs I got are Norton brand And I tried some 120 then some other brand that Ive had around for awhile these were 240 & 320 each
All of these stayed on for a short time but now nothing sticks.

Anothony from Ideal Tools is sending me a Festo disc but I think a new pad is in order.

Ive also been led to think that there are different 'grades/patterns/sizes' or whatever you call it to hook and loop stuff. If this is so how can I tell or discover what the difference between Festo tools and Norton paper is?

i think for sure the pad has slipped off and you might not have been quick enough to pull it up and it has ruined the hook it shouldnt matter what sand paper you use

It does sound like the sander base has worn, it follows the typical patten and I would think a new base will solve all problems. A lost pad and to slow on the lift was the killer for the last base on my poor old Bosch.
