The ETS-EC (brushless) sanders are not a replacement of the current ETS sanders, the current ETS sanders are still in production and likely to be for some time. The ETS-EC sanders are intended for a market that uses them solidly and the brushless have extended lifetime and also some ergonomic benefits with the lower centre of gravity, but cost more than the standard ETS models.
The discontinued models are the non-plugit models without Systainers. These were targeted towards automotive repair shops but that is where the ETS-EC is primarily for, so not surprised Festool Aus have rationalised their range. The normal ETS sanders with plugit and Systainer are still current.
Some ETS model designation code breaking...
- 125 or 150 = pad diameter.
- /3 = 3mm eccentric orbit.
- /5 = 5mm eccentric orbit.
- EC or EC-TEC = brushless model
- E = Electronics MMC.
- Q = plug-it power lead. No Q and it has a fixed power lead.
- Plus = In a Systainer. Set versions are also usually in a Systaner so they don't say "Plus" if it saws "Set".
