Festool splurge
I have to build some inbuilt cupboards in the laundry and wardrobes.
I had managed to talk the wife out of the getting a "man" to do it option, and wait around for me to do it. She did get as far as getting quotations, but once I saw the costs, decided I would pull my finger out and do it myself. But I did need to buy some more tools I said.
Anyway, I picked up:
1400 router, some other bits for it,
CT Midi as I had always just used a shop vac
shelf jig kit.
I ordered these from Germany and basically saved myself $600. Shipment was only $65, but it took 5 weeks via sea. I actually had the warranty letters from festool before the units arrived.
The vac does have the european plug, but for $5 I bought an AUD plug and then just made up a short adapter with the cut off plug to plug into the vac, or I will just use the router plug in the vac. For the saving I can live with it.
I was also unsure about the parallel guides, and thought they were a bit too expensive. But was looking on amazon last night and they had deal where you get the guides plus the extensions for $350 US. As I was buying a couple of other things I added them to my shipment. Postage might be a bit high when it gets to the forwarder, but probably only a $100 or so.
So by the time the guides arrive, I should have the melamine sheet and other drawer hardware ready to knock up the carcasses. I was going to get the doors and drawer fronts from a vinyl wrap place.
But it will give me a good project to test the various new toys on.
I must say the midi is much nicer to use than my shop vac. the ability to control the power is great, as it does quiet things down considerably to my old shop vac. Especially when using the RO90 i dont need a lot of suction.

So who is going to do the warranty.
Send it back to Germany or have you obtained Australian Festool guarantee that they will repair an overseas bought machine.
Just curious.
Cheers.

No Australia warranty obviously, but with $600 saving I'd take the risk especially for home use only.

Where did you order the gear from?
I am seriously thinking of getting the 1400 router with a few accessories. Did the router come with an Australian lead, or did you buy one locally?
I already have a CT Midi so know I can connect it up easily without adaptors.

I do need to send it back to germany for warranty. But I have a TS55 (2yrs old)a EQ150 (4 yrs old) and a RO90 (3 months) cx 10.8v drill (3 months). Protool 18v drill 1 month old. and have never had a problem with them. yes I bought these in Australia.
Actually I have never had a warranty claim with any power tools I have owned. (touch wood)
for the saving I figured I could take the chance. $600 is a lot of freight for warranty claims.
No the lead on the vac and the router are European. I cut the plug off the vac, and used that to make up a short connector lead, so I can plug that into the tool plug on the vac and then connect my Australian plugs into it. I kept the one as is on the router so it just plugs straight into the vac. I swapped it over with a sander as I always use the sander with a vac.
I will take a picture of what I did.
