Aside from not fitting, 36mm hoses absolutely destroy the balance of compact DC sanders; you have to fight just to keep it flat. Made my CEROS pretty much unusable and I went back to 27mm after a week or so

    Hi Bob

I did something similar when we had to upgrade from a Hollandia to a Miele vacuum cleaner about ten years ago. The Hollandia moved to the shed.

A sparky mate wired in a $60 "relay" from Jaycar - took him about 45 minutes. The gadget I called a "relay" is about the size of a pack of cards and fits totally inside the vacuum so I cannot check parts nos, etc, without dissasembling the vacuum.

The sander now plugs into the powerhead socket on the vacuum. Switch the sander on and the vacuum starts; stop the sander and the vacuum stops. Works well.

I have only used it with sanders.

    Cheers

I have the Festool 27mm hose into a CT26E along with a 35mm Bosch AS hose, which is identical to the Festool 36mm. These were OK using the heavy Festo sander (forerunner of the Festool 150). When I got a Mirka Ceros, I purchased the Mirka 27mm AS hose. What a game changer! Lighter ... cheaper! Check it out. I also have the Mirka 20mm AS hose for their handsanders. Light as a feather.

It looks like both the CTL 26 and the CTM 26 is $1275 at the moment. The only difference between the L and the M is that the M has a flow sensor to alert you if flow rate drops a certain amount. I think I'm going to go with the CTM 26 since its the same price. The CTL was like $1225 when I started this thread, I wonder what happened.

Apparently Festool dont make the 27mm hose anymore and the Mirka is $140!!!!!

The 27mm AS Mirka hose is 4m long and $140 (Mallee agencies, Perth). The 27mm AS Festool hose is 3.5m long and $226 (from Carbatec). Mine had identical fittings.

What happened is that 1 Jan clicked over and Fe$tool's annual price rise hit. It's one of life's certainties, along with death and taxes.

Last I looked, ideal tools hadn't updated their website, so you might be able to get a sneaky order in before they put the new prices up.

So it looks like the CTL 26 went from 1229 to 1275 and the CTM 26 went up to 1475 with a 200 discount bringing it down to the same price as the L.

So I notice there is a knob to select the thickness of the hose - what should be used if using a cyclone? I will either have a 36mm hose or a PVC pipe from the vac to the cyclone.

Because the knob allows for the flow reduction caused by the smaller hose I would start on the smallest setting and if it shuts off prematurely switch to the next size up and try again.

    Hmm

If its to reduce flow wouldnt you start on the largest setting and move it down?

It measures the reduction in flow caused by a blockage and as smaller hoses reduce the flow you need to tell it what size hose you are using so that it won't think that it is getting blocked.

As the cyclone also reduces the flow the only way that you can tell the vac that there is a cyclone is to pretend that you are using a smaller hose.

In other words on the largest hose setting it may think that the cyclone is a blockage and shut down.

So it turns out that with the cyclone attached and the smallest hose setting it beeps! Is there a way to turn the flow sensor off?

Maybe I should've just got the CTL for the same price....

Also just noticed that the stock filter in the CTM is standard and in the CTL is HEPA. I really shoulve just bought the CTL... arghh

I wonder if they will let me return it with their 30day money back guarantee, if I have already used the vac bag...
